Level 3 Fire Detection & Fire Alarm Systems Training Programme
Introduction
The Level 3 course in Fundamentals of Fire Detection and Fire Alarm Systems in Non-Domestic Buildings is designed to provide learners with essential knowledge and practical skills for the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of fire alarm systems. Aligned with BS 5839-1, BAFE SP203-1, and relevant UK fire safety legislation, this course ensures learners are fully equipped to meet industry standards.
To optimise trainer-to-learner engagement and provide effective hands-on experience, the course will initially accommodate eight learners per group for the first month. Following participant feedback and performance evaluation, the course capacity may be expanded to twelve learners per group starting from the second month onward.
The course structure integrates practical scenarios using both conventional and addressable fire alarm systems while delivering comprehensive knowledge to meet the requirements of BS 5839-1 and BAFE SP203-1, Version 8.
Scope
This training program will equip learners with both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to meet the learning outcomes outlined in the Level 3 qualification. The course spans 8 days (60 hours) and includes a combination of theoretical sessions, practical installations, testing, commissioning activities, and assessment exercises.
Key areas covered include:
- System Design: Applying BS 5839-1 principles to design life safety and property protection systems.
- Installation Practices: Hands-on exercises in installing fire alarm components using industry-standard equipment.
- Testing and Commissioning: Functional tests to verify system performance.
- Maintenance and Fault-Finding: Identifying and resolving common system issues.
- Handover and User Responsibilities: Training in system documentation and operational responsibilities.
The initial group size of ten learners ensures more personalised attention and hands-on time with the equipment. After the first month, feedback will be reviewed to make necessary adjustments, allowing for an increase in group size to twelve learners. This expansion will be supported by additional equipment and training aids to maintain the high quality of training.
